Gardening News

The weather has been less than sunny and spring-like but the gardening bug has gotten to me and I had to go out and play in the dirt already. I mean after all it is the end of April. Lettuce, spinach, beets, radishes and peas are all growing. In my eye, they are growing slowly because the weather is cold but they are growing and fostering my hopes and dreams for warm spring days. Potatoes have been planted but have not popped out of the ground yet. The onions are beginning to send up little shoots and the scallions are just bulbs under the ground waiting to pop up. The asparagus bed has about 6 shoots ready to be picked and the strawberry plants are greening up and beautiful. The other raised beds are sitting there dark and damp waiting for warm weather to be planted.

In our laundry room which is where I start some of my warm weather plants, things are growing. Some of the seeds which I planted really gave us a lot of veggie plants and some not so much. Here is the running list as of right now (a special thanks for my sister for helping compile the list and for keeping these plants alive while I was gone for 5 days last week-end).

30 Cantalopes
5 Watermelon
7 Sweet Peppers
14 Hot Peppers
24 Okra
30 Black Krim Tomato
16 Better Boy Tomato
3 Mystery Pepper Plants
