Burn Baby Burn

We have had a really MILD winter, sort of scary as not much moisture and I lived through the great Peck Idaho fire of 1994. When I close my eyes I can still picture the mountain on fire, the smell and burning feeling of smoke, the cry of animals, the crashing of trees and trying all night long to save my parent's house which we were successful at.

In the chicken run about fifteen feet of the shop there was this big brush pile, it was a good size pile when we moved here and the first two years we added to it and never did anything to it. Today during lunch Dale said "Let's go burn that pile". We had casually talked about it but with the dry weather it sort of moved up on importancy on the "Things to Do List".

Here is what we started with -

After several hours of HOT, tiring work here is what has left -

I also pruned brush and dead blackberries on the other side of the chicken run fence and kept adding material to the pile. It was exhausting but I wouldn't have really wanted to be anyway else except where I was - improving our little piece of heaven we call HOME!

You described the Peck fire right on. No one who was hear will ever forget it. I really thought we would lose everything we owned. Except for the grace of God and lot of nice people working all night we would of.
