An update...

Oh my, has it really been two months since I posted. How the time has flown. Unbelievable!!!! Things are doing good here, we have did so much and I didn't realize it until I read through my blog. We have hatched baby chicks and ducks. We now have 5 full grown ducks, two drakes and three hens. We have some more in the incubator to hatch the end of the month and I hope to keep two hens out of there and the rest will be sold. It is so nice just to hatch my own rather than shell out more money for more ducks.

We did add two goslings to the homestead and they are the sweetest things. I know next spring may be different as it is breeding season but we will see. I bought a pair at the local feed store and they are the Tufted Buff Geese. They are known for their quiet, laid-back personalites. I am hoping to sell goslings and hatching eggs next year.

In the incubator is BBS Orpingtons, (this means blue black splash orpingtons). I am so excited and so hope that this is a good hatch. They will be going in the old chicken house and thus kept seperate. The eggs sales around here are great. I can't even keep any eggs in the house. Dale wanted a ham and egg sandwich this morning and I told him use the eggs, we do have the chickens, we have to come first once in awhile.

Maya joined our family in April, she is another Nigerian Dwarf doe, she is Mariah's 4-H project although Mariah doesn't seem to really enjoy her. She is much happier carrying a chicken around.

The garden is looking awesome. I finally was able to purchase some asparagus, thank you chickens for the egg money, and after waiting IMPATIENTLY for three weeks it came up. I know we can't harvest off of it for a couple of years, but at least it is planted. I was so excited to see it poke through the ground.

We rented a tractor and was able to get the garden spot leveled off and the big dirt pile scraped off. It looks so much better and at the same time the garden tractor was here we were able to get a spot leveled for the kid's swimming pool. It is still cold but Mariah has been playing in it off and on all day.

Our neighbors gave us 85 Douglas Fir seedlings and they are all planted. I hope that at least most of them make it. That was such a nice thing to give us. It was wonderful and speaking of free gifts, my friend Courtney gave me a very nice dog house that I am using for the geese. It is so cute, the geese love it and best of all it was free. I love free stuff.

I promise to update this more often, I will do better, I swear!
