We went to pick up our pig yesterday and the pig farm was massive. They had 134 weaner pigs to choose from and it was crazy trying to choose one. They were everywhere. I really wanted to look at the pigs and pick one that looked long because I want bacon. I have been told the shorter stocky pigs are better pigs for hams and the longer ones make better bacon. I took Dale and Josh with me and that was interesting because they were like we want the spotted one, we want the red one, we want that one or that one and I was like just choose one. They finally settled on the pig pictured above. After the man grabbed him by one leg and threw him in the crate we talked pig for awhile. This really was NOT the experience I was looking for, I wanted to find a small operation. However the only I could find was ran by a lady who was absolutely wonderful but 220 miles away and that was the closest one that currently has pigs. After I had made arrangements with this gentlemen I found another source that was much closer but after talking on the phone with the lady my gut instinct told me to RUN the other way. I now know of another one locally who I will be getting my next pig from, which will probably be in January.
I told the guys that this pig looked like an Oreo and they agreed. On the way home however they decided that the white stripe is too big for a regular cookie so they have named him Double Stuf. Upon learning of his name Mariah proudly announced that that was because he was double stuffed with meat.
