We have been busy the last couple of days. Doctor visits and therapy with our littlest sprout - Miss Emilee! We also celebrated her 5th birthday with family on Friday night. They all came at different times and she thought it was wonderful because she had a cupcake with each group. Four cupcakes later, she had finally had enough. Smile!!! She is getting so big and such a blessing.
Mariah and I attended a 4-H goat and sheep workshop today. It was informative but I was really hoping for some hands-on experience. Cindy Nichols, Mariah's goat 4-H leader was there with her daughter and Mariah had a great time playing with the other girls.
Josh and I had a chicken "goose" chase today. Some 3-wheelers went by our house pretty fast and Josh was watching them go when he saw a chicken out in the field across from our house. He went over to check it out and then came back and told me that he found a chicken over there. We are sure it is ours as we had lost several over the winter and we went to chase it down. One hour later, we were the victorious as we safely put the very wet and half starved chicken in the hen house. It was frustrating and pokey with blackberries and locust trees but in the scheme of things it was worth it. It was a young hen and if she lays an egg every other day at minimum that would $25 in egg money. Plus counting the cost of her and the feed we have in raising her, it was worth the chase. I thought she may have a nest over there but could find no sign of it and we found where she had been roosting in a tree and her droppings didn't look broody so I decided not to fret about it.
Speaking of nest or baby chicks, I know at least one of the eggs in the incubator is developing nicely. Mariah and I are having a great time candling them and looking for growth. I was even able to show my 88 year old grandmother the egg being candled. It is so neat to be able to share information with others.
Still working on the turkey deal. Will post when I know more details. I am seriously considering adding one more nigerian doe to our flock or maybe breeding Jill. Room for thought.
