The Last Mohawkin

Today we said good-bye to one of our most beloved pets. We have about 40 chickens but we only had 1 left from the original bunch. The original gang was brought home on June 10, 2004. I had begged for chickens and finally for whatever reason, if for no other reason he was most likely sick of listening to me, Dale agreed. Josh, Mariah, Emilee my mom, and I went to the feed store in Orofino and pick out 5 chicks. Out of those 5, 3 of them were most memorable. Blackie, a Barred Rock, was the only one left out of that original bunch. Today when I went to the chicken house, I found feathers outside the chicken run door. She was found under the chicken house. Without going in to many details, she was mauled and left. I know and respect the circle of life, but there was no circle here. Our beloved pet death was in vain, as she was left after being brutally attacked. I firmly believe her soul is now in heaven and I thank her for her wonderful personality and good supply of eggs. Rest in Peace, Blackie!
